DSMG > Cookie Policy

This document allows you to learn about our cookie policy and understand how your personal information is managed when you use our services.
For more details about personal data processing on this website, you can also refer to the privacy policy.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites visited by users send to and store on their computer or mobile device, to be transmitted back to the same websites during subsequent visits.
Thanks to cookies, a website can remember users’ actions and preferences (such as login data, chosen language, font size, and other display settings), so they don’t have to be re-entered each time the user returns to the site or navigates between its pages.

Cookies are therefore used to perform computer authentications, track sessions, and store information about users’ activities on a website.
They can also contain a unique identification code that allows tracking of the user’s navigation within the site for statistical or advertising purposes.

While browsing a website, users may also receive cookies from other sites or web servers (so-called “third-party cookies”) on their device.

2. What are the main types of cookies?

There are various types of cookies, depending on their characteristics and functions. They may remain on the user’s computer or mobile device for different periods of time:

  • Session cookies, which are automatically deleted when the browser is closed.
  • Persistent cookies, which remain stored on the user’s device until a pre-established expiration date.

Under current Italian law, the use of cookies does not always require the user’s explicit consent.
In particular, “technical cookies” do not require such consent – these are used solely for the purpose of transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network or, to the extent strictly necessary, to provide a service explicitly requested by the user.

In other words, these cookies are essential for the website to function properly or to perform activities requested by the user.

Also exempt from the consent requirement, as they are equivalent to technical cookies, are “analytics cookies” when used directly by the site operator (first-party cookies) to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the website – or when provided by third parties, if appropriate measures are adopted to reduce their identifying power (for example, by masking significant portions of the IP address).

Similarly, “functionality cookies”, which allow users to navigate according to certain criteria they have selected (for instance, language preference or items chosen for purchase), in order to improve the service provided, do not require consent.

Conversely, “profiling cookies” – which are designed to create user profiles and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by users while browsing the web – require the user’s prior consent.

3. Categories of cookies

Cookies can be grouped into the following categories:

Functionality CookiesFunctionality cookies are used to remember visitor information on the website, such as language preference, time zone, or enhanced content settings.

6. Managing cookies

Users can decide whether to accept or reject cookies by adjusting their browser settings.
Please note: disabling technical cookies, either entirely or partially, may affect the functionality of the website’s features reserved for registered users. Conversely, browsing public content is still possible even when cookies are completely disabled.
Disabling third-party cookies does not affect navigation in any way.

Settings can be configured specifically for different websites and web applications.
Moreover, the main browsers allow users to define different settings for “first-party” and “third-party” cookies.
